ABOUT A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT EXCHANGE
WHAT IS A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT EXCHANGE?
In practical terms a high school student exchange means that you will be between the age of 15 and 18 years old, go and live in another country for a chosen period of time, during which you will attend a local high school and live with a host family. The time frame can be anything from two weeks to a year. Basically you live your normal everyday life like you do here in New Zealand - you go to school, you catch up with friends and you help out with keeping your room tidy (right?). Except in the case of student exchange you do all of this in another country - learning about a new culture and possibly even a new language, living with a new family and hanging out with new friends. Doesn't sound too bad, eh?
WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BE AN EXCHANGE STUDENT WITH YOUR EDUCATION?

WHY SHOULD I DO IT?
Stand out from the crowd
A high school student exchange with Your Education will provide you with valuable skills and experiences that will benefit your future academic and professional career. You’ll become more confident and independent – important traits that universities and employers are looking for.
Become fluent in a foreign language
Student exchange is your chance to improve your foreign language skills by speaking daily to your new host family and friends. Although hard work at first, in a few months you will notice that you have attained a new valuable skill for the rest of your life.
Create lifelong friendships
You will make a lot of important connections during your exchange. Your host family will welcome you into their home and community, so pretty soon you will feel like part of the family! You’ll also make loads of friends at school, many of who may become lifelong friends. Also, exchange students will end up meeting other exchange students from around the world, which will give you the opportunity to make international friends and connections.
Experience a different way of traveling
Visiting a country as a tourist often gives you a superficial idea of the culture and customs of a country, but actually living with a family for an extended period of time - and getting on with your daily life as you would back home - will give you a much more profound insight into what the country and its people are really like. Exchange is a great way to start travelling independently, with the peace of mind that you have the support of an experienced organization behind you.
