FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - SUPPORT
How will you prepare me for my exchange?
We will arrange a Pre-Departure Orientation Meeting for you and your parents, where we will cover a lot of different topics concerning your exchange. In addition to this, you will also receive preparation material. Of course, we are always there for you and your parents if you have any questions or concerns!
Who can I turn to if there are problems during my year?
At Your Education we have a Line of Communication, which allows us to handle problems and questions in the most effective way. At first you should address your host family and ask them for help. The next person who will also look after you during your time abroad is your Local Area Representative. He or she will be there to assist you with any issues that arise. It is important that you address problems straight away and keep the Line of Communication. In emergencies you can address the Overseas Office via the 24-hour phone number you will be provided.
I am homesick, what can I do?
It is really hard to describe the true feelings of culture shock and homesickness. It can be a feeling of not knowing what to do or how to do new things, not knowing what is appropriate. You might start to think about home and don’t like the way people handle things in your host country. Remember that there is no wrong or right here, it is just different! And to experience, understand and respect these differences are part of the reason why you are on an exchange. This is a great opportunity to talk with your host family and friends about the differences you are experiencing. Try out things you never had the chance or time to. Appreciate and embrace the opportunities you have now! Go to the movies with your new friends, try a new sport, taste different foods or get active in the community.
