MALLORY'S HIGH SCHOOL EXCHANGE IN IRELAND
My name is Mallory and I went on a two-month student exchange to Ireland. I always loved the thought of going on a student exchange, but I had never gained the courage to actually go for it until I came across Your Education. I thought it would be a great opportunity to gain independence, confidence and be able to live a life in another country with completely different people around me.
Of course it was nerve wracking. Flying a total of 24-hours by myself to another country and to make matters worse I had lost my phone on the plane. Luckily once I had arrived in Ireland things started to look better for me.
I met my host family who were some of the most friendliest people I have ever met. They were very approachable and helped me when I needed them. My host family consisted of a mum, dad, three younger host sisters and a German exchange student who was the same age as me. I shared a room with the German exchange student and we got along really well. We both went to the same school so she was able to show me around and make me feel comfortable.
Before I knew it, my time in Ireland had come to an end. My two months had flown by so quickly. Although I found it challenging at times, I am so grateful that I was lucky enough to have experienced life in Ireland and have met so many amazing people. I wouldn't change it for the world.
Mallory, from Rotorua went to Ireland for a short term exchange (in December 2016).
