Your Education exchange student went to Nova Scotia for an short term exchange and here is what her exchange student story:
"Going on an exchange was always a dream I had in the back of my mind, but I never
thought it would happen. When I made the decision to go on a short term exchange to
Canada, it was a huge one to make but I am so grateful that I did.
I was placed in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia and attended a school with only 300 people – my
school in NZ has 2000 people in it! It was such a big change for me but I loved my school in
Canada so much. Everyone was so friendly and laid back, it felt like another part of NZ. I met
people from all over the world – Canadian, Italian, Turkish, Spanish, Mexican – that I now
have lifelong connections to. We went skiing, ice skating, watched ice hockey games, and
went sightseeing in Nova Scotia together. My host parents created a second home for me
and allowed me to make memories that I will cherish forever and hopefully never forget.
They were so incredibly kind and loving and made me feel so welcome and at home,
allowing me to have a seamless transition into a whole new life.
My exchange was such an incredible time in my life, and it was so worth all the hard work I
put into making it happen. It's so hard to put into words how much of an impact that my
exchange had on me, but I became so much more confident, independent and adaptable
during my two month exchange. Navigating international airports was a challenge, but I had
other Kiwis travelling with me and we helped each other through it and it turned out to be far
easier than I was expecting!
I think the thing I enjoyed most of all on my exchange was just how much fun I had. Living a
different life for two months made me experience things I had never done before, such as
catching a yellow school bus to school and coming back home to make a snowman in the
backyard! To go on an exchange is such a blessing, and I wish I could re-live it all over
again. I’m so grateful to Your Education for making this possible and providing me with a
once in a lifetime experience."
